LED flood lights in Malaysia — outdoor, commercial and tropical-climate ready
Flood lights have to put up with everything Malaysia throws at them — daily rain, 95% humidity, midday sun on a tin roof, and the occasional monitor lizard. Pick the wrong IP rating or the wrong wattage and you'll be replacing the fitting within a year. Pick correctly and one set of LED floods will outlast the paint job.
Wattage to lumens — what each size actually covers
| Wattage | Typical use case |
|---|---|
| 10W (~900 lm) | Small porch, side gate, single shrub uplight |
| 20W (~1,800 lm) | Typical terrace house porch or short driveway |
| 30W (~2,700 lm) | Semi-D driveway, small garden, signage |
| 50W (~4,500 lm) | Bungalow driveway, car park bay, small facade |
| 100W (~9,000 lm) | Factory loading bay, large facade wash, full-size driveway |
| 150W-200W | Warehouse exterior, small futsal court |
| 300W-500W | Billboard lighting, sports courts, large factory yards |
For homes in the Klang Valley, 90% of customers end up between 20W and 50W per fitting.
Beam angles — narrow, medium and wide
Narrow (15°-30°) — long-throw, used to highlight a single tree, statue, signboard or to wash a tall facade from far away.
Medium (45°-60°) — the all-rounder for driveways, side walls and porches.
Wide (90°-120°) — for blanket coverage of a yard, garden or car park. Most stocked flood lights come in 100°-120° wide as default. For accent and facade work, ask us specifically for narrow-beam units — they look very different on a wall.
IP ratings for tropical climate
IP (Ingress Protection) is the single spec you cannot compromise on for outdoor lighting in Malaysia. IP65 is the minimum for any outdoor fitting under a roof eave or covered porch. IP66 handles powerful water jets — what we recommend for any fitting exposed to direct rain. IP67 is temporary submersion-rated — for in-ground uplights, pool-adjacent fittings, and low-lying spots that flood during heavy rain. Given how heavy our rainstorms get, we default to recommending IP66 for almost every residential exterior application.
See our deeper IP ratings guide for room-by-room recommendations.
Colour temperature for outdoors
For outdoor and commercial floods, 5000K (cool white) and 6500K (daylight) are by far the most common. They produce a clean, bright, security-friendly light and pair well with concrete and white paint. 3000K (warm white) is reserved for facade lighting on heritage buildings, landscape lighting in lush garden settings, and resort-style bungalow facades where you want a softer, hospitality look. Many of our floods are tri-colour switchable.
What we stock
We carry BSlight and FSL for the value end of the range — these are what most of our small contractor and homeowner customers fit on terrace and semi-D driveways. Lamphill and Thor are our mid-range workhorses for factories, warehouses and larger projects across the Klang Valley. Eglo and Egl cover the design-led end with cleaner housings suitable for visible facade applications. NSB rounds out the heavy-duty industrial range. All are SIRIM-certified models where required.
Choosing for security, landscape and facade
For security around a house, pair a 30W-50W flood with a PIR motion sensor — it triggers when someone walks within 8-12m and stays on for a programmable 30 seconds to 5 minutes. For a driveway you leave on all night, use a dusk-to-dawn photocell sensor instead. For landscape uplights on trees and bushes, choose 10W-20W narrow-beam IP66 or IP67 units with warm 3000K colour. For facade and signage, calculate based on the surface area — roughly one 30W-50W flood per 3m of wall width if you're washing from ground level.
Installation and Klang Valley delivery
We deliver across KL, PJ, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, Damansara, Kepong and Sungai Buloh. For commercial projects (factories in Sungai Buloh, Bukit Raja, Glenmarie or Subang HiTech) we can quote in bulk and coordinate staggered deliveries to match your project schedule. Bring your site plan or a few phone photos of the area you want to light — we'll spec the wattages, beam angles and quantities on the spot.
