Best Lighting Shops in KL: How to Choose (2026 Guide)
Last updated: July 2026. Kuala Lumpur has hundreds of lighting shops — from designer boutiques in Bangsar to wholesale rows in Kepong and Petaling Jaya, plus online stores promising the lowest price. Lighting and fans are one of the bigger line items in a KL renovation, so choosing the wrong shop is an expensive mistake. This guide explains how to choose well, whichever shop you buy from.
The three types of lighting shop in KL
| Type | Strength | Watch out for | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walk-in showroom | See lights running, compare fans side by side, get advice | Slightly higher prices than online | Whole-home renovations, first-time buyers |
| Catalog / wholesale shop | Lower prices, wide SKU range on paper | Can't judge light quality before buying | Contractors who already know exact models |
| Online store | Cheapest, convenient | Grey imports, warranty claims by courier, colour surprises | Replacement bulbs, known models |
Most KL buyers get the best result by shortlisting in a showroom, then deciding whether a small online saving is worth losing local warranty support.
7 questions to ask before you buy
- "Is this SIRIM-certified?" Lighting sold in Malaysia should meet SIRIM / ST COA safety standards. Grey imports are cheaper but risk flicker, early driver failure, and problems with insurance claims. A good shop answers instantly.
- "Can I see it switched on?" A catalog photo cannot show the difference between 3000K and 4000K in a real room, CRI (how colours look), or fan noise at speed 5.
- "Who handles the warranty claim — you or me?" The real test of a lighting shop is a claim in year two. Some shops make you deal with the supplier; better ones handle it for you.
- "Do you keep my purchase records?" Matters when you extend a renovation three years later and need a matching downlight.
- "What's the driver warranty?" For LED lights, the driver fails before the LED. 1 year is minimal; 2+ years is good.
- "Do you do lighting plans?" Shops that calculate downlight counts and lux levels from your floor plan save you from the two most common mistakes: too many downlights, or the wrong colour temperature per room.
- "What's the project price?" Buying a whole house in one order should earn a package price almost anywhere — always ask.
How to judge a quote
Rather than fixating on the sticker price, compare quotes on the same basis: the same brand tier, SIRIM-certified stock, driver warranty length, and who handles claims. A quote that is far below everyone else's usually means non-SIRIM stock or no meaningful warranty — the saving disappears the first time a driver fails. Get at least one quote from a walk-in showroom where you have seen the actual track system, DC fan or chandelier running, and always ask for a whole-home package price — at our showroom, packages start from RM1,000 for a studio unit.
Where the lighting shop clusters are
- Kepong / Jinjang — wholesale-style shops, strong on price
- Petaling Jaya (SS2, Taman Paramount, Kota Damansara) — mix of boutiques and established family shops
- Bandar Sri Damansara — our own showroom (Classic Hi Light, since 2004) with 30+ brands on live display, 10 minutes from Kepong
- Jalan Ipoh / Sentul — older cluster, good for classic fittings
- Online (Lazada/Shopee + specialist stores) — cheapest for known models
Visit at least two shops before committing a renovation budget. Bring your floor plan — any shop worth your money will use it.

FAQ
What is the best lighting shop in KL?
There is no single best shop — it depends on whether you need showroom advice, wholesale pricing, or online convenience. Shortlist shops that carry SIRIM-certified stock, display products switched on, and handle warranty claims for you. Visit at least two before deciding.
Are online lighting stores in Malaysia safe to buy from?
For replacement bulbs and known models, yes. For whole-renovation orders, be careful: check SIRIM certification, driver warranty terms, and who pays courier costs for warranty claims. A small online saving can disappear with one failed driver.
How much should I budget for lighting in a KL renovation?
It varies widely with the fittings you choose — feature chandeliers, magnetic track systems and premium DC fans push budgets higher. WhatsApp us your floor plan for a free lighting plan and an exact quote; whole-home packages start from RM1,000 for a studio unit.
What does SIRIM certification mean for lighting?
SIRIM / ST COA certification means the product meets Malaysian electrical safety standards. Non-certified (grey import) lighting may flicker, fail early, and can complicate fire-insurance claims.
Is it worth visiting a lighting showroom instead of buying online?
For a full renovation, yes. Colour temperature, CRI and fan noise cannot be judged from photos. Seeing products running prevents the most expensive mistake: re-buying lights that looked different at home.
